Renewable energy

The Green Party are calling for the utilisation of council assets to generate electricity. By doing so the city council could create an income stream that will make the city far more resilient in the face of cuts imposed by the coalition government. Generating electricity would reduce costs, provide free electricity and generate an income by exporting surplus electricity to the national grid. There is huge potential for solar panels on roof tops as well as ground mounted panels on local authority land.

The Green Party is strongly opposing the move by the government to more than halve the feed-in tariff from 43p to 21p for each kilowatt of electricity produced by photovoltaic (PV) panels. This threatens a flourishing and successful renewable energy industry which has created thousands of new jobs and damages the case for community and business PV schemes.
