Waste and recycling
Green Party councillors will demand that our waste is seen as a valuable resource which, when recycled properly through good door step collections, will provide funds for reinvesting in our city rather than being a cost to taxpayers. We need to move away from environmentally damaging and expensive processes for dealing with waste such as the proposed incinerator in Alphington.
We strongly oppose the reintroduction of weekly waste collections; evidence shows that weekly collections reduce recycling rates and their reintroduction would be an enormous expense on local taxpayers. We do however seek to introduce the weekly collection of food waste coupled with the development of an anaerobic digester to create green electricity.
